Jolly Phonics Application

It uses a multi‐sensory style that is particularly suitable for young children.  It is active and fun, which makes it easy to keep the attention of the children. "Jolly Phonics is a systematic, sequential, phonics program designed to  teach children to read. It emphasizes both the teaching of letter-sounds in isolation (not in whole words) and then it goes to blend letter-sounds together to read a word" Jolly Phonics teaches the 5 main skills, where the children are firstly taught the 42 sounds in English, and then continued into blending and reading skill, at the same time they are taught to write by identifying the sounds in words. (Lloyd, 2010)

Jolly Phonics incorporates multisensory approach, where the information is delivered through sight, sound. It is really suitable for young children’s characteristics. (Farokhbakht & Nejadansari, 2015)

The following are the techniques used by the teacher for teaching English literacy through the five skills in Jolly Phonics. It includes learning the letter sound, learning letter formation, blending – for reading, identifying sounds in words – for writing, and Tricky Words. (Ni Putu Pebri Ariati, 2018)

The Jolly Phonics Lessons App is a comprehensive app that provides daily lessons plans for each of the 42 letters sounds. It provides teachers with easy to follows plans enabling them to deliver lessons, which embed the key skills that children need to master for reading and writing, including 1) Learning the letter sounds 2) Learning the letter formation

3) Blending the sounds for reading 4) Segmenting the sounds for spelling and writing
